While in graduate school for Speech Language Pathology in the 90's, Carly developed a passion for studying the brain while working as a research assistant. She then went on to use this passion in working with scores of brain injury patients over the years. While working with these patients, she began to see just how amazing the brain is and had a front row seat to witness the wonder of neuroplasticity. Patients that were given a dim prognosis for rehabilitation were making unexpected strides as their brain began to form new connections.
In her time as an Executive Director at a cognitive rehabilitation facility, she was surprised to see what little resources are available for brain injury survivors and their caregivers once they exit their rehabilitation facility. At that point, the idea for Holness was born.
After providing consulting services across the country, she decided it was time to start an organization that provided ongoing support for brain injury survivors and their caregivers. A location that clients could receive in-office appointments as well as a launchpad for virtual care for those outside of North Carolina. After completing her Masters in counseling and in life coaching, she opened Holness in September 2023.
Her other passion is helping those that struggle with anxiety. Through her extensive study of the principles of neuroplasticity, she also realized that the same brain phenomenon that gives hope to brain injured individuals can be applied to anxiety. Having struggled with her own anxiety for years, she began to apply those principles of neuroplasticity to her own life and was excited to see amazing changes.
She created a program that would help others as well. Her methods have helped many overcome the grip of anxiety on their life. She is beginning to teach her program to others across the country so that they can integrate this program into their practice as well.
